The plan was to try taking Jereth off the ventilator at 2:00 pm today. He had other ideas. By 12:30 he had the tube partly untaped and coming out of his throat, so the doctors approved taking it out early. Because we were not sure what caused his airway to be blocked there was concern that he would have to go right back on the ventilator so everything was prepared in case they had to put another tube in.

Once the tube was removed Jereth seemed much more content and comfortable (which makes sense - I can't imagine having a tube in the throat feels good). He's been improving steadily today, and he has been able to use less high pressure air, down to 3 liters from 5 liters. They will keep decreasing the flow as long as he keeps doing well with the goal of getting him down to 2 liters so he can leave the intensive care unit.

Roy and the children made it here safe and sound. Roy is spending the night here at the hospital and the children are going on to Grandma's.
