Jereth's temperature last night and this morning hovered around 102-103 degrees Fahrenheit. His weight was down below his weight when we came to Primary Children's, due to diarrhea. The blood and urine cultures were normal and the viral panel preliminary results were negative, so a stool sample was tested. That came back positive for the rotavirus, a stomach flu virus, which explains the temperature, upset tummy, and diarrhea.
This morning Jereth started the car seat test. He spent 8 hours in his car seat using compressed air from a tank to provide the 5 liters per minute of flow that keeps his airways open. His fever broke during the test and he started acting like he felt much better. He also managed to pull his feeding tube out, which required a trip to radiology to get a new tube put in where it belongs since he now has a nasojejunum tube which goes beyond the stomach into the intestines.
The doctors are not ready to make a final decision about sending us home until they see how Jereth does for the rest of the night. They want to make sure he is hydrated enough and that his diarrhea stops before sending us home. We should know by about 7:00 am if we need to be ready to leave at 8:45 am.
