This morning things were looking really good for getting us home on Saturday. Tonight Jereth has a temperature that is causing concern. To decide whether or not to send us home poor, sweet baby Jereth has been through the ringer tonight.

First the nurse technician has taken his temperature anally three times since 8:00 pm (I'm writing this at one in the morning). Next, they swabbed his nose for a test to see if he has a virus. Then the nurse took a urine sample using a catheter into his bladder. She found the bladder on the fourth try - I'm not sure where the tube went the first three times. Finally, they took a blood sample from his vein (it took 3 tries to get a needle into one of his veins and then the blood they got was clotted).

Even with Tylenol his temperature has gone up. We'll get preliminary results on the viral panel tomorrow mornung, but final results won't be back for three days (we won't have to wait for the final results if the preliminary results  are negative and his temperature goes down). The urine and blood will be used for bacteria cultures. If either of those are positive, he'll get antibiotics. If they are negative, we'll figure it's some kind of virus that may not show up on the viral panel.

So I don't know whether we'll be heading home on Saturday and may not know until late Friday night.

  2. Yes, Di, he has been very sweet and patient through all this. We won't know for sure until early tomorrow morning whether or not we'll be coming home.
